Bert's Big Adventure Leaves For Disney World
Atlanta, GA-- (submitted by Tara Murphy) On Thursday, February 17, 2011, the Bert's Big Adventure families, friends and supporters will gather at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Atlanta Airport to kick-off an unforgettable VIP send-off party.
Mardi Gras themed, the 2011 send-off will include face-painting and mask-decorating, magicians, Disney characters and more! For the adults, hair, make-up and mini-massages are just the beginning. In addition, Bert's Big Adventure will be having surprise reveals each hour for select families. Past reveals have included a fully-loaded handicapped accessible minivan for a single-mother and a dream wedding of a lifetime for a couple who had spent their life-savings on medical bills.
This year, who knows what fun, laughter, excitement and tears of joy will take place at this incredible send-off.

Q. A one day big adventure in Atlanta: where are you going?
A. I am taking my Bert's Big Adventure team out for a girls day. We are starting with mani/pedi's at Hammond Nails and Spa in Chastain Square at 4279 Roswell Rd, Atlanta. Then onto Flip Burger at the corner of Piedmont and Roswell Rd for lunch to eat my favorite burger, The Butcher Block, and slurp down their amazing shakes. Then we would head across the street to the Powers Ferry Square Shopping Center located at 3804 Roswell Rd, Atlanta to get our shop on at Fox's (an designer off price boutique).
Q. Favorite neighborhood?
A. Decatur: Just recently picked up some adorable fashion accessories at Squash Blossom and dined at Parker's on Ponce where we had a fabulous meal and an amazing bottle of wine. I love being able to walk around to shops and dining.
Q. Most underrated thing about Atlanta?
A. The restaurants. We never get the props we should like NYC and Chicago do regarding our restaurants. We have so many amazing places to eat that it keeps the competition high so if you are just a mediocre restaurant in the ATL you won't survive.
Q. If you were "sending off" from Atlanta permanently, where would your last meal be, and what would you be eating?
A. My last meal would be at 10 Degree South at 4183 Roswell Rd. It is my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. It is South African food but don't let that freak you out. I have had ever single thing on the menu and love it all. I would start out with the garlic roll and billtong which the owner dry cures himself then I would have the lollipop lambchops melt in your mouth delicious and finish it off with a slice of Di's Delight, the owner's mom makes this dessert fresh everyday.
Q: What's Bert's Big Adventure Send Off, and how can folks support it?
A. The Bert's Big Adventure Send Off Party is the live broadcast my husband, Bert and his on-air cast, from The Bert Show on Q100 radio, does from the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Atlanta Airport the morning we leave for Walt Disney World. We take children with chronic/terminal illnesses and their entire families to Walt Disney World for a 5-Day, VIP, all expense paid trip to Walt Disney World once a year.
